#33 – Soldiers and Sailors Families Association (SSFA)

Soldiers and Sailors Families Association (SSFA)

In February 1885 Major (later Colonel) Sir James Gildea formed the Soldiers and Sailors Families Association (SSFA) in order to help all military families. Following the founding of the Royal Air Force in 1918, the title ‘Airmen’ was added to the name and the organisation became known as Soldiers,

Sailors and Airmen Families Association (SSAFA). The SSAFA is the UK’s oldest national tri-service charity and exists to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity.

Cheshire Freemasons were proud to support this charity with a recent donation of £5000.
