Last year was very busy for the TLC being the 10th anniversary and the donation of the 100,000th TLC Bear, which took place at Leighton hospital, Crewe on 30th October.
The Emergency department staff and Cheshire Freemasons were well represented when The Chairman of the Trustees VW Bro Alan Glazier presented the commemorative TLC Bear to Dennis Dunn MBE, Chairman of the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Trust. Light refreshments followed together with a beautifully decorated cake which had been made by WBro Mike Bentley’s granddaughter
The total number of TLC Teddies donated in Cheshire is now 02,010.
Sadly WBro Mike Bentley stood down as TLC Representative for Area 3, although he will continue to act as liaison for Leighton and Northwich hospitals. We welcome as his successor WBro Frank Loftus who will be responsible for Area 3.
WBro Malcolm Cooke of Phoenix Lodge No. 3236 successfully completed his trek of the GrandCanyon in October and raised the magnificent sum of £511 for the TLC Appeal. Malcolm was accompanied on his journey by ‘Mason’ the Bear of ‘Triumph over Tragedy fame’ and Mason can now add the USA to the 29 European countries lie has visited. Masons’ next adventure is on 7th February 2015 at Tatton Park, Cheshire when he will join Bro Chris Collins in undertaking a 300ft Bungee jump.
WBro Joe McInnes was welcomed back to the O2 Call Centre in Runcorn in December, raising £300 with the TLC Display.
Teddy visited the Children’s Emergency Departments at Stepping Hill and Tameside hospitals where he was made very welcome by both the staff and patients. He was delighted to be able to give some relief and of course a TLC Bear to some very distressed children. Although one nurse at Stepping Hill was nearly sent home when she told the Doctor that she had seen a 7ft Teddy Bear in a purple suit on the Department.
