Over the last decade the internet has continued to grow providing ever increasing access to all sorts of information and communications. The term ‘social media’ covers a huge range of different platforms providing information to increasingly wider audiences. Blogs, pod-casts, forums and social networking sites have all changed the way in which people now communicate with one another. The powerhouses of Facebook (850 million active members) and Twitter (300 million active users) have enabled instant communication to millions of users at the click of a button. Freemasonry Today, The Freemasons Grand Charity, The Royal Masonic Trust For Boys and Girls and The Masonic Samaritan Fund already have Facebook sites with rapidly increasing members posting regular updates.
The focus of the MMF has been specifically on Facebook, with a site being built that can be used to update all members on forthcoming events, sharing of experiences, reviews of past events and news about what is going on in the Province. It will enable brethren to receive and obtain direct information from the Province, Area and Lodges more rapidly than has been the case previously.
