The Middlewich and District Masonic Golf Society Inaugural Meeting was on the 29th March 1994.
The society started with Middlewich lodge members with a few friends from Sandbach and Northwich lodges. There were initially 21 members.
The first competition was held at Delemere Forest Golf Club, in July 1974 and there are still several members from that first day. Those current members being Dave Topp, Ken Davies, Adrian Morgan, Colin Hambleton and Colin Spann.
As you would expect the society has always supported the “Captains” choice charity each year, supporting masonic and non-masonic groups, in fact mostly charities in our local community.
The most recient donations are:-
- North West Air Ambulance £325
- East Cheshire Hospice £285
- Troop-aid Supporting injured troops £200
- UHN Staffs Ward 222 £250
- Prostate Cancer £620
- Cheshire Samaritan Festival 2016 £800
- West Midlands Air Ambulance £101
- Tri-Services & Veterans Support Centre £104.
Bill Chalmers and Colin Hambleton are actively promoting the Golfing Society to lodge secretaries in the local area.
One of the successes is are the several Staffordshire mason members, including our Captain for 2017, Peter White, from the Alsager Golf Club.
The society is open to masonic and non-masonic member and you do not even have to be a member of a golf club.
Most matches are through the summer months (avoiding lodge nights). There are around 10 to 16 frequent players at the May/June/July/August/Sept and October events. The October match is traditionally played at the Knutsford Golf Club.
The next golf day is on the 15th June 2017 at the Malkins Bank Golf Club in Sandbach. Dining will start around 4.30pm.
