Inhabitants’ Lodge No 153, a part of the District Grand Lodge of Gibraltar hosted a number of brethren from Area 3 for their recent Installation meeting which saw WBro Ken Davies of Avondale Lodge No 2389 who is also a member of Inhabitants Lodge, act as host to his Cheshire brothers.
The District Grand Lodge of Gibraltar and Inhabitants’ Lodge comes under the auspices of the United Grand Lodge of England and can date its’ history back to 10th May 1727 when Grand Lodge minutes for that date recorded ‘‘His Grace the Duke of Richmond proposed health and success to our brethren of the lodge of Gibraltar, which was drank accordingly.’ Today there are 9 Lodges within Gibraltar with Inhabitants’Lodge No 153 being founded in 1776.
The Area 3 brethren flew out to Gibraltar from snowy Manchester on Friday 19th January via Heathrow for the Saturday ceremony which was attended by RWBro Alfred H Ryan the District Grand Master of Gibraltar. The excellent work within the Lodge was of the highest quality and was followed by a Festive Board of equal worth.
Prior to the Saturday ceremony a sightseeing trip to the Rock to visit the Barbary Apes also included the many fortifications which still exist from distant conflicts and the large auditorium which is used for social and cultural events for the resident population.
Returning on the Sunday to the Manchester rain all agreed that it had been a cracking Lodge visit and a rare chance to see another aspect of Freemasonry at work.
