Despite spasmodic drizzle it couldn’t extinguish the BBQ nor dampen the spirits and enjoyment of Gateway Lodge (6374) Members and their guests at the Lodge Annual Summer BBQ held in a members garden backing onto the canal at Chester on Saturday 16 July. Everyone tucked into a splendid array of BBQ food sourced from local butchers and marinated using spices from around the world. Rolls were baked in Saltney by a Master Baker and salad plucked from local gardens. Bottles of beer and wine were kept cool by an ingenious chilled water cooling system that could have only been invented by Rowland Emmitt or a genius in technology. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon, laughter and happy banter could be heard by canal users as they passed by and even dog walkers stopped on the towpath to take a look, the ducks were not forgotten and had a fair helping of their favourite food. Gateways Lodge are well known for their excellent social events and todays BBQ was no exception.
