“A pioneer in every respect, WBro Gerald Emerton a member of King’s Friends’ Lodge 293 celebrated his 50th Anniversary in Freemasonry yesterday. WBro George Mann APGM detailed his work for the Lodge, Freemasonry in the Nantwich area, his specialist work in Roofing and Slating and his love for the community of Acton.
Gerald who is one of the country’s leading specialist in Roofing and Tiling having studied at UMIST is frequently called upon by national organisations for specialist guidance and runs the family business with his son Simon which was established in 1925. Gerald was one of a group of members who transferred Kings Friends Lodge from Nantwich Masonic and Parish Hall to the village of Acton in 1980 and successfully integrated freemasonry into the community.
Meeting at Acton Parish Hall the Lodge is seen to run shoulder to shoulder with the Young Farmers, W.I., Round Table, Flower Arrangers Club and Parish Council, their respective honours boards sit side by side in a unique village hall setting. A packed hall heard how Gerald when Master, regenerated and expended the hall to incorporate a Club Room, Kitchen, store room and new toilets now used extensively by the Lodge and local community.
In his spare time Gerald has amassed a collection of 15 working vintage coaches and buses, written a book on Action Village, restored Glebe Hall to its former condition and reset the massive gardens which on occasions are used by local charitable groups to generate finds for the Nantwich and Action community.
WBro George Mann APGM promoted Gerald to the new rank of PPSGD during the evening and thanked him for his great services to Freemasonry and the successful integration of the Craft with a village community. During the evening members of the Lodge presented Gerald with a slate plaque engraved to record his 50 year milestone in Freemasonry. The Slate and Tylers Sword are a fitting mark of this Brothers work over many years in both tiling and roofing. Gerald has yet to decide where to mount the plaque, maybe in the Village Hall to remind all who use the building of his work for the community.”
