Lodge of Sincerity No 428 met at Hartford Golf Club on Monday 5 October 2015. The main business of the meeting was to ballot for the Lodge to amalgamate with Sinceritas Lodge No 4934 and Semper Fidelis Lodge No 3453. The ballot proved in favour, which means that these three Northwich Lodges will amalgamate in 2016. The new, resultant Lodge will continue to meet at Hartford Golf Club and is likely to take the number 428, currently held by the Lodge of Sincerity which is one of the oldest lodges in the Province of Cheshire and certainly the oldest in Mid Cheshire.
WBro Graham Scott Webmaster presented the Lodge with a long lost book on the History of Sincerity Lodge. The history covers events occurring during the first one hundred years of the Lodge, from its founding in 1835 until 1935. The book had been reunited with the Province by a gentleman in Birmingham, who found quite a number of Masonic artefacts from Cheshire Lodges amongst his late Uncle’s belongings. He contacted the Webmaster via the Provincial Website and subsequently forwarded the items to him.
WBro Scott read out a section of the book dealing with fines that were to be levied on Brethren who were either late or failed to attend a meeting. The top fine of four shillings applied to the Worshipful Master with smaller sums for the Wardens and one shilling on ordinary Members. One shilling is five pence in present money but in 1836 it would represent about £6 expressed at present day values!
