Sale Mason WBro Robert Fitzsimmons, PProvGSwdB celebrated his 50th anniversary of being initiated into Freemasonry exactly to the day on 22nd September 2015 and celebrated the event at a special meeting of his Lodge.
Bob, who is a member of the Lodge of Harmony 4390 began his Masonic journey in 1965, being initiated into the former Altrincham Lodge 4369 which before its closure in 1992 was based in Sale Masonic Hall.
It took Bob 17 years to reach WM in his Lodge, a position he held twice as well as being a long time DC. A keen sportsman, Bob who is 79, has completed 5 marathons and numerous half marathon events. He is still involved in sport being a keen fisherman, golfer and target shooter.
Apprenticed as a toolmaker for Metro Vicks in Trafford Park he went on to work for an engineering company that made boilers for power stations. He finished his working career in the insurance industry.
Bob has a taste for adventure and has experienced being a glider pilot, bi-plane flying, skid pan driving and tank driving as birthday presents from his family over the years. He has a lifetime association with the Scouting movement.
Bob gained his last Provincial appointment 21 years ago when he was made PProvGSwdB and was delighted when, in the Lodge room he was promoted to the rank of PProvJGW by WBro Martin Barlow PSGD, Assistant Provincial Grand Master with responsibilities for Area 3. As a part of the ‘birthday’ ceremony, Bob was also presented with a special certificate from the Provincial Grand Master and a gift of glassware from his Lodge. At the social board the acting WM, WBro Dan Harris also presented him with a specially made cake to mark his 50th anniversary.
