Young carers in the county will be able to enjoy a summer of fun activities thanks to a generous donation from Cheshire Freemasons.

`This donation will be used to support a special programme of activities in the summer school holidays, a period when young carers can feel trapped in the house by their caring responsibilities,’ Mr Phillips said.

Cheshire Young Carers supports young people aged between six and 18 who are carers in their family. They might be looking after a parent or a sibling, and some of the people they care for have complex needs.

The duties of a young carer can include managing medication for a family member, managing the family shopping, or caring for a younger brother or sister. Often, they are called upon to deal with emergencies, and daily they are dealing with both physical disabilities and family members with mental health conditions. Some of these carers are as young as six years old.

In Cheshire there are estimated to be around 8,000 young carers with funding from Local Authorities to support around 300. This is why the work of the Cheshire Young Carers charity is so important.

`The young people supported by Cheshire Young Carers are remarkable and deserve to have part of their childhood free from caring responsibilities – that’s what we deliver,’ added Mr Phillips.

After the informative discussion on the activities and commitment shown by members of the charity Adrian again personally thanked Graham Phillips for managing such a worthy cause.
