60 years celebration for WBro Tom Cowan

On Friday 24th of February, Commercial Lodge celebrated the 60th Anniversary of WBro Tom Cowan,. Tom is well known to the Masons of North Wirral, having for many years been active and especially in demand on ladies nights where he often performed the ladies song for many lodges, on many occasions over the years.

The History of Toms illustrious career was given by WBro Gary Horstman AProvGM,  and he accompanied the DepProvGM VWBro Alan Glazer. who had the pleasure of promoting him to the rank of PProvGSwdB on the night, to the acclamation of the Brethren, which included a large number of acting Provincial and Grand Lodge officers, and a large delegation from Broadsmith lodge.

Tom went on to roll back the years and as part of his response to his toast, and accompanied once again, as he has been for many years  by WBro Bill Bennett, entertained the 80 plus who stayed to dine with a few stories and anecdotes from his life and career, some poetry he had written, a joke or two and his own inimitable  take on “Hello Dolly” and an excellent performance of “bring him home” from ” Les Miserables ” with standing ovations after each , and calls for an encore.

Tom was pleased to make a presentation to the Lodge of a mounted ships bell for future use and the festive board continued well into the night.
