On Monday 16th of October 2017, St.Aidan Lodge, No:4063, Celebrated the ‘Golden Jubilee’ of Bro. John Alexandra Sutherland, OBE. In 2003, Bro. John was honoured to receive the OBE, something he says he will always remember. The day at the Palace with his family was made complete when the Queen carried out the Investiture. He also received the ‘British Red Cross Distinguished Service Award’ in 2008. (The Photo Presentation begins with Bro. John’s visit to Buckingham Palace to receive his OBE.)
The Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. Gary Raymond Horstman, PSGD, and officers of Grand Lodge and Acting Provincial Grand Lodge were in attendance. The event was also graced by the attendance of the area two Chairman W.Bro. John Miller PPSGW.
The meeting was attended by 41 brethren who listened, fascinated by the history of Bro. John Sutherland as W.Bro. Horstman informed everyone present, of his fascinating biography. As a young man, living in a small fishing village, he worked in his father’s shop which was, as he explained, like the TV series ‘Open All Hours’, even down to the bicycle which was used in that series.
Who then would have known what John would go on to achieve, The highlight, he said, was going with his two daughters and son, to receive the OBE from the Queen.
John, being a proud Scott, was delighted to have been piped into the Festive Board by two pipers.
