WBro Charles Edward Cresswell 100th birthday

On Sunday 17th September 2017, WBro Charles Edward Cresswell, PPrSGD and member of New Brighton Lodge No. 2619, celebrated his 100th Birthday. Earlier this year, WBro Eddie, a veteran of World War II was appointed by the French President to the rank of Chevalier in the Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur. (Knight of the Legion of Honour) ‘In recognition of his military engagement and his steadfast involvement in the Liberation of France during the Second World War’.

WBro. Paul Massie PSGD, APGM for Area 1, accompanied by WBro Dafydd Jones Evans, PPrAGDC, Almoner of New Brighton Lodge, visited WBro Eddie to present him with a Certificate in recognition of his birthday together with a letter and gift from RWBro Stephen Martin Blank, the Provincial Grand Master of Cheshire and a birthday card from all the Brethren of Area 1.

During the visit WBro Eddie recalled many of his exploits during the war and presented WBro Paul with a CD of the poems he wrote whilst on active service. The poems had been recorded by WBro Dafydd who literally brought them to life with his dulcet welsh accent.

WBro Eddie celebrated in the afternoon with a lavish party and surrounded with many family members and close friends.

Many congratulations Eddie, from all the Brethren of Cheshire.

  1. Pride – W/Bro Chas represents all that both is and was excellent in his generation – selfless sacrifice & steadfast belief in right. He and his compatriots well deserve the honour of Chevalier!
