The evening of 15th December saw the 560th meeting of Marlowe Lodge No 6506 at the Queens Royal Hotel in New Brighton. During the meeting, the Worshipful Master gave a talk entitled “It’s What we do”, which shared an interesting take on why we celebrate Christmas as Masons. In addition, W. Bro Jeff Cunningham the Chair for Area 1 gave an update on what has happened within the area over the recent period and what we should be looking to achieve in the coming year.
Following the meeting itself, the festive board at the December meeting is traditionally a “white table event” and the Worshipful Master was pleased to welcome our guests for the evening along with the Brethren of the Lodge and visiting Brethren alike (some 54 in total). The 3-course menu was, as always, beautifully prepared and enjoyed by all with verve and vigour. I believe the quietest part of the evening!!
After our meal had ended, the Charity Steward W. Bro. Garry Lawrence was pleased to present a cheque for £200 to a representative of “Autism Together” following which the traditional “Dutch auction” took place with around 50 – 60 gifts having been donated by members and guests. The auction was overseen by the D.C. of the lodge WBro Barry Hind and the Charity Steward, WBro Garry Lawrence who ensured that all present enjoyed the occasion whilst at the same time realising that the main aim of the evening was to raise a goodly sum of money to be donated to very worthy charities. Even our Area 1 Chairman managed to win one or two of the items!! In total, I am very pleased to be able to report that the amount raised during the festivities was £540.91
The Worshipful Master would like to extend his thanks, along with those of the Brethren of Marlowe Lodge to all our guests for their enthusiasm shown during the evening and their generosity in assisting us to raise this great amount.
Finally, The Worshipful Master and Brethren would also like to extend Seasons Greetings to all.
Have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR
