Within the first edition of the Marlowe Times, it was reported that during the course of our Christmas festive board, which was designated as a “white table”, the members of the Lodge along with their guests, raised the magnificent sum of £1000 via the fun proceedings of a “Dutch Auction”. The Worshipful Master and the Brethren decided that this sum be split evenly between the British Heart Foundation and the Wirral Autistic Children’s Society.
During the festive board following the March meeting of Marlowe Lodge, it was the Worshipful Masters privilege to make the donation of £500 to the British Heart Foundation. Their representative on the evening was their local area fund-raising manager Ken Fretwell who is himself a Mason. Ken expressed his delight at receiving such an amount and assured the Lodge that the donation would be put to excellent use by the Foundation in its’ local efforts within the Merseyside area.
As many of you will be aware, Thursday 2nd April was World Autism Awareness Day. The aim of the Autistic Society is to provide care and support for individuals with autism and social communication difficulties. Mr Robin Bush, the Chief Executive of The Autistic Society UK, spent the day on the Wirral visiting the centres in the locality, in particular their newest venture out at Raby.
In the late afternoon, The Queens Royal Hotel in New Brighton played host to Mr Bush and other representatives of the society, where, as part of the days’ celebrations, a giant “balloon release” took place. One of the balloons released from New Brighton actually found its’ way to Tuscany in Italy!! To be specific, Torre Del Lago Beach. I believe that is the Italian equivalent of New Brighton!!
As you will recall, Marlowe Lodge meets at the Queens Royal and, as supporters of the Wirral Autistic Childrens Branch, we were invited along to join in the celebrations. WBro Bill Lucas took this opportunity to present a cheque in the amount of £500 on behalf of the Brethren of Marlowe Lodge to Mr Bush.
